I have been serving as an academic staff member in the Department of Geographic Information Science (GISc) at Hawassa University, Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resources since October 2014. Over the years, I have taken on multiple academic and leadership responsibilities including Lecturer, Research Advisor, and currently Head of the Department. During my tenure, I have actively contributed to teaching, research, and community service in the areas of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Climate Change, and Renewable Energy Production and Utilization. I have taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervised student research projects, and provided academic advising to support student success. In addition to teaching and research, I have been involved in consultancy and professional training activities. I have delivered multiple rounds of professional training in Urban Cadastral Surveying and Mapping, Rural Land Administration and Surveying, GIS and Remote Sensing Applications for Environmental Protection, and Geospatial Data Management using R and Python programming. I also have extensive hands-on experience with geospatial software including ArcGIS, QGIS, and ERDAS Imagine, which I utilize in teaching, research, and consultancy projects. My work focuses on applying geospatial technologies to support sustainable natural resource management, climate change adaptation, and renewable energy planning. Furthermore, I have contributed to departmental leadership, curriculum development, research coordination, and strengthening collaboration with stakeholders and institutions. Through these roles, I continue to support academic excellence, research development, and community engagement within the university and beyond.
