The Music & Sound Annotation Expert contributes to cutting-edge customer projects at the forefront of music and audio technology. Using specialized analytical listening skills, contractors serve as the ground truth by evaluating short field recordings, documenting audible elements through a structured web platform, and grading AI model outputs against real-world audio.
Listen to 30–90 second field recordings using professional headphones in a dedicated quiet workspace, completing structured annotations for instruments, tempo, key, timestamps of background events (e.g., traffic, sirens, applause), and overarching scene details.
Compare paired recordings of the same source material captured across different locations, critically judging structural and acoustic changes.
Review AI-generated descriptions of audio clips in later phases, marking accurate, inaccurate, or hallucinated details with concise, evidence-based written explanations.
Participate in mandatory paid onboarding/calibration sessions and short weekly syncs.
Analytical Listening: Exceptional capability to isolate individual instruments out of busy, noisy, real-world mixes rather than isolated studio tracks.
Music Theory Knowledge: Proficiency in identifying tempo within a few BPM and determining musical key (relative pitch with a reference tone is acceptable).
Audio Annotation: Strong aptitude for detail-oriented, repetitive data entry via web platforms utilizing dropdown menus, timestamping tools, and structured notes.
Written Communication: Clear written English proficiency for drafting concise, evidence-based notes (e.g., "accordion enters around 0:12").
Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to quality control, validation, and benchmarking tasks.
Minimum 3+ years of hands-on professional, academic, or gigging experience in music or audio production.
Candidates typically originate from one of the following backgrounds:
Working or gigging musicians, session players, producers, or mixing engineers.
Music educators, ear-training instructors, band/choir directors, conservatory students, or recent graduates.
Location sound recordists, sound designers, foley artists, or podcast/documentary audio editors.

A dedicated, quiet workspace optimized for critical listening.
Reliable, high-speed internet connection suitable for streaming and uploading audio assets.
Availability to commit 20–25 hours per week for the duration of the engagement window.
